Guarana is native to the tropical forests of the Brazilian Amazon and is now cultivated in Brazil. It has a long history of traditional use by the Amazonian Indians of South America who worshiped guarana as a gift from the gods. Guaranine has the same chemical composition as caffeine, theine and theobromine and has the same phisiological actions: stimulates the central nervous system, increases the metabolism, is a light diuretic. Other important bioactive ingredients which are found in the extract are: tannins, saponins.
